My vacation from Blairsville to Wilmington

Worth the trip from Blairsville, Georgia

Sometimes mountain folks get the urge to visit the beach. Sure we have sparkling streams, awesome views, miles of forests, and friendly downtown districts but alas, there is no ocean. Where is a good beach with public access and all the amenities? Try Wrightsville Beach located just a few minutes from historic downtown Wilmington, NC. This beach town is a little off the beaten path but that's what makes it so special. It is well worth the trip.

Favorite spots in Wilmington and on Wrightsville Beach

Favorite spots include the Blockade Runner Resort, the Causeway Cafe, the Whiskey on Front Street, and various boutiques and shopping centers. There is something for every taste and budget in Wilmington, NC. If you want to relax on the beach, try the Blockade Runner Resort. Smiling faces, elegant atmosphere, free breakfasts, reasonable rates, magnificent views of the Atlantic, a secluded swimming pool, huge Jacuzzi, and access to the Banks Channel satisfy long term and short term guests. The Blockade Runner also caters to corporate America with attractive and comfortable meeting facilities.

Looking for fresh seafood and informal atmosphere? Order one of the lunch specials at Causeway Cafe. Betty and Donna will treat you right. What about night life? You can listen to live music at the Whiskey on Front Street just about every night of the week. Catch BiBis Ellison - this little gal can sing!

Blockade Runners gets a five star rating

I have been home for a week but am already missing my new friends at Wrightsville Beach. I am ready to go back! Although I am a reporter/photographer/internet specialist taking my first vacation in over ten years, I didn't rate any special discount at the Blockade Runner. I never got to meet General Manager Nicolas Montoya (he is a busy man) but I did talk with Front Desk Manager Randy Bastyr. No free days for reporters at the Blockade! That's alright, though. I am so pleased with my stay, I give them a five star rating anyway!

The End of Highway 76

Since my editor only publishes stories about Blairsville, Georgia, I had to come up with an angle for my vacation story. I found it when I spotted a sign on Wrightsville Beach. It said, "End Highway 76." It just so happens that Highway 76 runs right through Blairsville, Ga. We sometimes call it Blue Ridge Highway. Anyway, I wrote the story, and got a huge response. Calls and emails let me know that my readers enjoyed learning all about Highway 76 and where it leads. Many say they are going to make the trip themselves so look out Blockade Runner - you may have more mountain men and women on the way.
